Giving Tuesday

With 2015 just around the corner and our list of resolutions growing ever longer, the well-heeled are looking for the chicest means of achieving almost everyone's top 2015 goal – an increased focus on wellness and self care. 2015 is set to usher in a new era of holistic health, and wellness resorts are offering a 360-degree approach to lifestyle improvement, complete with on-site doctors. With five-star hotels leading the charge, the jetset should prepare for quite the healthful year ahead.

SHA Wellness Clinic in Alicante, Spain is a gorgeous little wellness-cum-medical retreat on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, in a climate deemed by the World Health Organization as one of the best in the world – perfect for maintaining an optimum state of health. The clinic started with the goal of uniting natural therapies and proper nutrition with medical expertise. The result is a vacation experience with treatments running the gamut from traditional Chinese medicine, to psychology, to general health screenings, and beyond. Dedicated dieticians curate menus based on a macrobiotic diet and travelers looking for a luxury pond hop without a trip to the doctor. The property also offers wellness treatments including yoga, water treatments, and massage.

COMO Shambhala in Bali – an absolutely stunning estate if I may say – has a resident Ayurvedic doctor and resident dietician, who are available to consult with guests and can design comprehensive programs for detox and stress management. There is also a running schedule of activities for wellness guests, including yoga, qigong, cross training, Balinese dancing, and a class on the secrets to longevity. Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico offers a holistic experience for the more meditation-focused traveler, with a "Cognitive Cardio" platform led by a wellness specialist, in addition to a number of other treatments including acupressure, biofeedback, and manual lymph drainage.

With more and more luxury hotels beginning to incorporate comprehensive, results-driven wellness programs into their on-property offerings, it looks as though clean eating and a dedication to a mindful, healthy outlook is here to stay. For travelers who have experienced many of these offerings from the source cultures, seeing top international treatments combining for a more holistic approach is music to our ears.

Cheers to happy, wealthy and very healthy new year.
