AMALFI IN NYC
Unable to jet to the Amalfi Coast anytime soon? Not to worry as there’s a newcomer to New York’s Italian cuisine scene — the hotspot Pranzo housed inside Mario Batali’s Eataly marketplace, my go-to grocery for all things Italian. Located at La Scuola di Eataly, chef-dean Lidia Bastianich works side by side with aspiring culinary maestros to whip up fresh plates, complemented by superb wine pairings. (I, for one, am anticipating mastering ‘The Art of Risotto’ early next month.)
Newly open for lunch Monday through Friday, Pranzo is great if you are looking for a chic Flatiron power lunch or just a quick light bite. Its open kitchen is all the better for seeing the foodie forces at work as they prepare dishes ranging from pan-seared marinated lamb to the classic homemade spaghetti with pecorino and basil. Beginning this month, daily prix-fixe menus highlight the best of regional Italian favorites — Amalfi’s Campanian dishes and mozzarella di Bufala included. Make sure to save room for the featured dessert: olive oil cake with rhubarb compote and ricotta gelato. Delizioso!
