Halloween is many a girl’s favorite holiday — the perfect excuse to bedeck wrists, necks, fingers, and ears with every piece of costume jewelry in your collection. While my own personal style doesn't generally fall into the macabre, I must admit that I was inspired by Vogue's glamorous collection of designer Halloween masks. The Maison Michel lace hood? Perfection!
In the spooktacular spirit of a holiday deemed worthy of discussion by Ms. Wintour herself, I've compiled a selection of global soirees fit for the ghoulish jetsetter.
Urbanites have long flaunted their gory garb at New York’s Village Halloween Parade, now celebrating its 40th year. The spectacle of tens of thousands of ghouls and goddesses has no defined run-of-show. Instead, parade producer Jeanne Fleming composes each procession on the fly lending itself to be a more spontaneous affair. After the hardship of Hurricane Sandy canceled last year’s parade, it is back on this year with the theme of revival. Vive le New York!
Americans aren’t alone in their affinity for Halloween. This year, Londoners will be flocking to Slaughterhouse Hospital. The former animal hospital venue has been turned into an eerily fitting tribute this season. The space will host Bambi, Nicola Robinson and Kitt Proudfoot playing indie, electro-rock and house hits. London’s hip Love & Liquor is hosting a “haunted circus” complete with clowns, contortionists and blood shots, oh my! Costumes are a must.
So whether your costume falls in the sexy sausage category or consists of a sinfully chic Alexander McQueen mask paired with a blood red Chanel lip, I hope your Halloween is a memorable affair. Be sure to tweet pictures of yourself to @TravelCurator for a retweet!
