If the Hamptons had their own royal family, the Laurens would be it. Ralph Lauren continues to define a certain blue-blooded American look that has become synonymous with the destination, and daughter Dylan, famous for her fabulous taste (as noted in this month’s issue), sells the best nostalgic treats at Dylan’s Candy Bar, East Hampton.
Now the elegant Lauren matriarch, Ricky, has also earned her spot in Hamptons legend thanks to her new cookbook, The Hamptons: Food, Family and History. Having spent the last 48 years calling The Hamptons home, Mrs. Lauren has plenty of cherished memories to share, lovingly presented in family anecdotes and recipes, as well as personal photos depicting a powerful personal history.
The recipes are refreshingly unfussy, laid-back and classic, making great use of seasonal fresh fruits and veggies — of which there are plenty Out East. With a dish suiting every occasion, all perfect for seaside living, my favorites include the delicious shrimp and scallop burgers with mango-avocado dressing and the challah French toast, which would make a killer brunch combo come July 4th.
