An event that combines goodies from Barefoot Contessa‘s Ina Garten and gives you the chance to support a great cause seems like a midsummer night’s dream. But although I’m a sucker for the tropics, you don’t have to leave the country for this party in paradise – the hotly anticipated 2012 Chefs Dinner comes to the Hamptons on July 28, and all you need to pack is a weekend bag and your appetite.

Now in its seventh year, the foodie fête features a divine cocktail party and upscale auction of exclusive F&B and travel packages. A long list of NYC’s VIP chefs, including Eric Ripert of Le Bernadin and Justin Smillie of Il Buco, will tag team with local talent to create a four-course dinner to die for. The festivities benefit Bridgehampton’s own Hayground School and its beloved Jeff’s Kitchen, founded by the late restaurateur Jeff Salaway to encourage cooking among seasoned vets and culinary novices alike. (Come to think of it, my beef bourguignon may need a little bit of work…)

As with most outings Out East, come for the delicious bounty, stay for the breezy soiree – fresh and elegant, in true Hamptons style.
