With Thanksgiving behind us and the harrowing days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday at an end, this holiday season calls for a change in the status quo. Buying a gift for the person who has everything cannot be accomplished by waiting in mile-long lines or by not-so-subtly crashing your office’s servers while internet shopping. Instead, it requires a certain je ne sais quoi, and even more, an ability to look beyond the traditional ribbons and bows. For my holiday challenges this year, I am looking to gifts that give back; extraordinary experiences that pay it forward.
And there is no time like the present. Today is #GivingTuesday, a social media initiative, which dedicates one day to giving back on a global scale.
In honor of #GivingTuesday, powerhouse online auctioneer Charitybuzz is launching their curated holiday gift guide for 2014, said to include gifts for the Power Player, Hollywood Hotshot, Adventurer, Rockstar, TV Fanatic, and Socialite. Available now is a curated tour of the Yves Saint Lauren + Halston Fashioning the 70s exhibition (drool) at the Fashion Institute of Technology; a walk-on role and chance to meet the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Danny DeVito slays me); and an opportunity to enjoy a private lunch with Michael R. Bloomberg, followed by a tour of the iconic Bloomberg HQ in NYC.
And this time, my age-old present-buying mantra of “one for you, one for me” is truly going to pay off.
