We’re on a Bali high…no, not Bali Hai from the 1949 musical, South Pacific, but the amazing feeling we get when traveling to the ‘Island of the Gods’. It might be the perfect combination of spirituality and lush landscapes, but it also might be the luxury haven that is Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.
This gem is quite secluded, positioned along the Ayung River and rice fields about 10 minutes outside of Ubud (located in the uplands of Bali and considered the cultural heart) and because Mandapa is a Ritz-Carlton Reserve property, the level of luxury and privacy is elevated even more. There are only 60 villas and suites and everyone has a dedicated butler, which is as much fun as it sounds. There are so many incredible things to experience, but to help narrow it down, we’ve highlighted our top picks on and off property.
Mandapa Spa is a center for healing and one of the most amazing experiences is a session with Ketut Mursi, a highly skilled reflexologist who happens to be completely blind. She uses her sense of intuition and touch to conduct custom healing sessions that are totally life changing.
For meals, we recommend taking advantage of the Dining Beyond experience, which allows you to enjoy your meal in a private spot along the river or among the rice paddies. Off property, we love the Tirta Empul Temple for a traditional purification ceremony. We recommend arriving early to beat the rush but it’s a special experience that only Bali can provide. Try Mandapa’s guided Vintage Tour through the countryside via classic VW 181 convertibles and for shopping, visit Threads of Life, Biasa and John Hardy’s Ubud showroom.
No matter what, any visit to Bali guarantees some peace, even for urbanites like us, and for the ultimate luxury experience, it’s a must to stay at Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.
